Abstract:
The purposes of the report are: · to describe the Medical Services data sources to gain better insight into their complexities; · to explore the datasets’ usefulness from a Public Health perspective using specific examples that examine whether they can help to inform public health prevention strategies, understand health services provided, or measure incidence or prevalence of a disease or condition. For example, can we use Medical Services data to: o measure the proportion of Peel smokers receiving tobacco cessation counselling from their physicians? o measure influenza vaccine coverage among Peel residents? o measure the proportion of 18-month-old Peel children receiving an enhanced well baby visit from their physicians? o estimate the incidence or prevalence of influenza among Peel residents? · to identify any strengths and/or limitations within the datasets; and · to make recommendations regarding their future use.
